Safer Recruitment Training

The Safer Recruitment Workshop builds on findings and recommendations in the Bichard Inquiry Report (2004).

TARGET AUDIENCE

Those responsible for recruitment of staff within Schools/Academies and all organisations working within children and young people.

AIM

  • Give participants an awareness and understanding of offender behaviour
  • Identify the key features of safer recruitment that help deter and/or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people
  • Consider policies and practices that minimise opportunities for abuse or ensure its prompt reporting
  • Help participants begin to review their own & their organisations policies & practices with a view to making them safer

The minimum standards for safer recruitment highlight the requirement to incorporate measures that help deter, reject, or identify people who might abuse children, or are otherwise unsuited to work with them, both within the organisations recruitment and selection practices and procedures, and by developing a culture of vigilance and awareness across the workforce and children in their care.

Making safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children an integral part of the culture organisations that work with children, and creating policies and practices to support that commitment, is an essential part of creating safer environments for our children.
